Business Decisions started in 1992 as Garry Luxmoore and Associates and in 1995 the name was changed to Business Decisions International (BDI).  In May 2000, BDI took over the operations of Minerva Consulting, Minerva Clements (ex John Clements and Associates) and More Skills Australia.  Currently BDI is a recognised firm specialising in business consultancy and training and development.

BDI proudly approaches the marketplace offering quality, professional services that continue to orientate around its tag line –

“from dilemma to strategy”

Businesses are forever changing and they must do so, given the dynamic environment within which they operate.  But how to change, or which strategy to take to successfully compete in the marketplace, are dilemmas that many organisations face.  Often an objective, independent and insightful viewpoint can lead organisations to greater and better heights.

At BDI, our preference is to develop long-term relationships and establish an in-depth understanding of our clients’ businesses, and as a result we pride ourselves in our high degree of repeat business and referrals.  We focus on improving organisational performance through the provision of integrated services in our specialist areas.  We are in the business of delivering results for our clients by devising and implementing integrated strategies and solutions.  For us to deliver we hire exceptional people who can quickly apply their knowledge, skills and experience to the specific circumstances of each of our clients.

Often external consultants are generally contracted by companies because of their knowledge and their independence from the situation at hand.  Often they’re unbiased, independent point of view enable them to BDI_Logo_with_DS_writing_1.jpgsee situations clearly and then offer solutions that move companies from dilemma to strategy.  Just offering solutions, however, is not necessarily a long-term win.  To use the old adage, it may win the battle, but not necessarily win the war.  The missing factor is frequently “ownership” – ownership of the solution.

When clients are given solutions they may well work and be highly effective, or they may fall short of expectations and not be implemented successfully.  Very often, the difference between a highly successful intervention is based on the word ownership.  An imposed solution may well have the “not invented here” barrier to overcome.  It always stands the danger of being blamed for any degree of implementation that is less than completely successful.

When clients “own” solutions the probability of them being accepted, implemented and successful is enormously high.

Consultants have, therefore, a critical role in eliciting data, responses, and ideas from their clients and transforming these into strategies and actions that will make effective change. There is also a school of thought that suggests consultants listen to what clients say, repackage it and hand it back in a document accompanied by an enormous bill.  Many may say they employ consultants for their knowledge so that solutions can be found.

It seems then, that consultants tread a fine line between authoritatively giving solutions and co-operatively finding solutions, between providing knowledge and harvesting knowledge.  The difference we at Business Decisions see, is between process and content.  In order to gain commitment rather than just compliance to solutions implementation, our consultants are process specialists who “conduct the orchestra", whilst maintaining specific content neutrality.

We profess to be specialists in the “how” not the “what”.  Of course our knowledge is used where and when necessary, but only in a way that builds and allows ownership of solutions.
